Melody sighed as she stepped up the the lab door, then smiled at the thought of a new pokemon. She had heard from her friend Vince that Professor Ash gave out Poochyena's as starter pokemon, and hoped it was true. "Doom..." she whispered. "Please be ok with Vince..." She sighed again. "May Entei protect me," she then whispered, beginning to knock on the door. It was a prayer that was commonly heard from her. Entei was her favorite legendary, and he was a friend to her as well. He had helped out in many cases. These memories flooded her mind as she stopped knocking on the door.

The door collapsed in on itself. "Helloooooo?" A man's voice called though.
Suddenly, a face appeared upside down in the doorway. It was Professor Ash, and he was obviously hanging upside down.
"Are you here for your first pokemon?" His hat was taped onto his head so that it wouldn't fall off.

"Uh... Yeah..." Melody said, surprised though not as much as she would have been had Professor Metego back in Itego had been hanging upside down from the ceiling when she went to get her first pokemon there... Of course... Nothing much surprised Melody anymore since she'd left Itego. Many mysteries were around and about Itego... Such as her old Absol, Doom, who could speak in plain, human, English. "Do you have any Dark Pokemon, Professor?" She didn't even bother stepping into the lab, having been quite used to staying outside for long periods of time. She liked it outside, especially if it just happened to be dark.

Professor Ash grinned, pearly teeth flashing. "Why, of course!" He disappeared from the door. Suddenly, a pokeball floated down from seemingly nowhere, followed by two more.
"We have Natu, Poochyena, or Makuhita. Please take your pick!" The ball that contained said pokemon shook when the professor said the name of the pokemon. Plus, there was a violet glow around the one containing the Natu, a black glow around the Poochyena, and a brown glow around the Makuhita.

"Poochyena, definitely!" Melody said happily. She remembered having captured a Poochyena in Kanoa, and having one hatch in Phoenix. She smiled as the memories flooded her mind. "Wait..." she said, then thinking it would be nice to have a psychic pokemon. "Maybe the Natu..." She pondered for a while, have never had a Natu, let alone a psychic pokemon. "Could I see both the Natu and Poochyena? It's easier for me to decide when they're in front of me."

As she said that, the balls containing Poochyena and Natu opened, sending said pokemon to the floor.
The poochyena was quite large for one, and looked a little on the mean side. It started growling at the Natu, who landed a short distance away. The natu looked rather timid, and didnt keep eyecontact despite the general nature of the species.
"Would you like to see Makuhita as well?" Professor Ash asked.

"No thank you," Melody said, already crouching in front of the two pokemon. "Psychic or Dark...?" she whispered to herself. "Oh how I wish I could have both... But one or the other... How to decide... How to decide... I know...!" She held one hand out in front of each of the pokemon. "Whoever comes first, or is nicest about coming..."

The natu doesn't make any move to approach her. The poochyena drops its aggressive stance to sniff the air in front of her, before its tail started to wag.
Seeing the poochyena so calm about the human, the natu took a small hop forward. But then the poochyena barked, and trotted right upto her, tail wagging.

Slowly Melody started to pet the Poochyena. "Hello little guy..." she said. I'm still not sure though... she thought. After all... I've never had any psychic pokemon... Melody smiled down at the Poochyena, then looked over at the Natu.

The natu pecks the poochyena's tail! With a yelp, the poochyena jumps back, baring its teeth and growling angrily. The natu backs away, unblinking eyes seeming to stare off into oblivion.
Professor Ash blinks from where he has been standing on the ceiling. "Oh my... I do believe that those two do not get along!"

Melody patted the Poochyena on the head. "I think I'll take you..." she said. "I'm sure I'll catch a Psychic Pokemon along my journey. One you get along with better..." She smiled down at the little Natu. "Sorry..."

"Excellent choice!" Professor Ash says. The two pokemon are returned to their pokeballs, the one containing Natu is taken away. A bag floats down. Congratulations!  Name: Your choice Gender: Your Choice Level: 5 Attacks: tackle, howl Nature: Moody The bag contains: five pokeballs, two potions, an antidote, a paralyze heal, an awakening, a burn heal, and 500P. You may now go onto Route One or explore the rest of Coral Town. |

It was a nice, cheerful day. The kind of day where you'd think nothing would go wrong. Ever. At all. As in, not in a millionth of a chance.
Smiling cheerfully, to match the cheerful day, a funny old man stood under an umbrella with an odd meowth at his side.
"Why hello there!" He called out to Melody. "Why dontcha step over here for a moment? You're a new trainer, right? I think I've got something you'd be interested in...."
